Seth Rollins believes WWE has been thinking more outside the box with their booking so far in 2020.

WWE has had a reasonably strong start to 2020. Not only have they built on what they had achieved in 2019, but they’ve added some new twists on Raw, SmackDown, and NXT as well.

Raw now has Seth Rollins rising once more as a strong heel as the Monday Night Messiah, as well as Drew McIntyre following his Royal Rumble win.

SmackDown, on the other hand, has Universal Champion Bray Wyatt going from strength to strength, and a new twist in their secondary title picture with Braun Strowman as Intercontinental Champion.

As for NXT, they’re building up their entire roster following their move from pre-recorded to live TV, especially their women’s division with the possible inclusion of Charlotte Flair in the NXT Women’s title picture at WrestleMania with either Rhea Ripley and Bianca Belair.

Speaking recently with Sports Illustrated, Rollins reflected on the first month of 2020 for WWE, and he believes the company has been thinking outside the box with their booking so far in the new year.

He said: "As for taking chances in 2020, we already started by taking a chance in 2019 with the Monday Night Messiah character.

“You look at someone like Drew McIntyre winning the Royal Rumble, you look at how things are setting up on SmackDown with The Fiend, you look at where the women are at, taking a chance with Rhea Ripley and Charlotte and weaving in NXT, so I think the company is taking more chances in different ways.

“I'm looking forward to seeing what these people who were given new opportunities can do to step up and take the business into the next decade.

"I'm always down for more chances and more character turns, but if you've got passion and you go out there and execute, that's what it's all about for me."

Rollins’ face persona arguably went a bit stale near the end of 2019, and it was the right decision for WWE to mix things up and turn him heel once more.

Attaching the Monday Night Messiah gimmick to him has allowed him to flourish once more and reinvigorate himself at the right time as we approach this year’s Showcase of Immortals.

Fresh and new storylines are important for WWE throughout the year, but it always has the biggest impact around WrestleMania season, so WWE is thinking outside the box at just the right time.
