Stats show Dean Henderson is putting David de Gea to shame in the Premier League this season

Henderson could take the number one spot at Man Utd

Dean Henderson has made quite the impression during his debut Premier League season.

The Manchester United goalkeeper, who's currently on loan at Sheffield United, has been key to a Blades side that sit fifth in the table.

In fact, they're just two points behind Chelsea and that final Champions League spot. They couldn't, could they?

Never say never in football but if Sheffield United do actually qualify for European competition next season, Henderson will deserve a massive pat on the back.

The English 'keeper has been brilliant from matchday one and he's already making a serious impression.

Some fans are even calling for him to return to Man United and take the starting spot next season.

That would require displacing the Premier League's highest-paid player - David de Gea.

The Spaniard is renowned as one of the best shot-stoppers in the world and it is very unlikely Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will allow him to leave.

De Gea's spot at Man Utd could be under threat

But actually, the statistical head-to-head comparison shows Henderson is putting United's established number one to shame this season. Check it out:

Clean sheets - Henderson: 9 | De Gea: 5

Saves - Henderson: 65 | De Gea: 65

Save percentage - Henderson: 75% | De Gea: 69.15%

Catches - Henderson: 12 | De Gea: 3

Keeper sweepings - Henderson: 15 | De Gea: 3

Henderson dominates De Gea in all but one of those categories, where the pair are level on saves made.

With stats like those, it won't be long before the Sheffield United loanee starts appearing on the radar of other big clubs, not just Man United

If an offer did come in, then club chiefs would really have a decision to make. Henderson though is pretty set on making it at Old Trafford.

"The big dream is to play for Manchester United one day," he said, per The Sun

Henderson's dream is to play for Man Utd

"I’ve always had that dream throughout my life so until that’s accomplished I’ll never think I’ve made it. Even if I play for them once I won’t think I’ve made it."

If Henderson carries on putting in solid performances as he has done all season, then it surely won't be long before he achieves that goal.
