Sir Alex Ferguson's departure from Manchester United was a big turning point in their history.

The club had been so dominant in England during Ferguson's spell as manager.

But they have been a shadow of their former selves since the Scotsman's departure in 2013.

A big reason for their downfall has been their failure in the transfer market.

United have spent a lot of money, but their player recruitment has not been up to scratch.

The Red Devils have made 31 signings since Ferguson's exit. But who has been the best and who has been the worst?

Man United fans have been voting in their droves on BBC Sport and have ranked every United signing in the post-Ferguson era from worst to best.

The poll has not finished yet so the results have been taken at the timing of writing. Some signings, including Odion Ighalo, Bruno Fernandes and Lee Grant have not been included as they haven't played enough games.

28. Radamel Falcao | Up votes: 502

So much was expected of Falcao when he signed on loan from Monaco in 2014. He managed just four goals in 29 games for the club.

27. Alexis Sanchez | Up votes: 533

Sanchez was expected to bring back the glory days to United but, after one-and-a-half disappointing seasons, he left on loan for Inter Milan last summer. He's most likely played his last game for United.

26. Morgan Schneiderlin | Up votes: 689

Signed for £25 million, Schneiderlin was unable to replicate his Southampton form in a red shirt. He lasted just one-and-a-half seasons at the club before departing for Everton.

25. Matteo Darmian | Up votes: 1,013

Darmian made 92 appearances across four seasons for the Red Devils before departing last summer.

24. Angel Di Maria | Up votes: 1,192

Those who voted for Di Maria must have been voting solely on that wonder-goal he scored against Leicester. Other than that, he was very disappointing.

23. Memphis Depay | Up votes: 1,315

To say Depay struggled at United is an understatement. He has since re-found his form in France with Lyon.

22. Marcos Rojo | Up votes: 1,576

Rojo always gave his all but struggled badly with injuries during his stint at the club. He left on loan for Estudiantes LP last month.

21. Henrikh Mkhitaryan | Up votes: 1,754

Mkhitaryan was one of Europe's brightest midfielders at Dortmund. He managed just 13 goals in 63 games for United before moving to Arsenal.

20. Bastian Schweinsteiger | Up votes: 2,277

Schweinsteiger was past his best when he moved to United. He made just 18 Premier League appearances in one-and-a-half seasons.

19. Victor Valdes | Up votes: 2,722

Valdes only played twice for United. He managed a clean sheet in one of those games, though.

18. Paul Pogba | Up votes: 3,826

Pogba has so much talent but his inconsistency lets him down. He has not been worth the £80m United paid to re-sign him in 2016.

17. Eric Bailly | Up votes: 5,629

Bailly's United career started well but it has since been blighted with injuries.

16. Luke Shaw | Up votes: 6,507

Like Bailly, Shaw started well but has declined since some serious injuries.

15. Marouane Fellaini  | Up votes: 9,515

Fellaini wasn't easy on the eye but he did the job for United. He managed 22 goals in 172 games for the club.

14. Fred | Up votes: 9,658

Fred had a slow start at United but has since improved. He's now a key player in midfield under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

13. Diogo Dalot | Up votes: 10.5k

Dalot is still young but he's been impressive whenever called upon.

12. Nemanja Matic | Up votes: 11.9k

Matic has been a reliable player during his three seasons at United. He's managed four goals for the club, including a screamer against Crystal Palace.

11. Anthony Martial | Up votes: 12.5k

Martial is just one of those players that looks so good one week but then uninterested the next. Despite 60 goals in 202 games, it's almost as if he has underachieved at the club.

10. Romelu Lukaku | Up votes: 12.9k

Lukaku had a decent record for United, scoring 42 times in 96 games. United let him go last summer, though, and he has since thrived at Inter Mlan.

9. Daley Blind | Up votes: 14.1k

A versatile player, Blind was a reliable player for United during his four season stint. Some United fans may still question why he was allowed to let go.

8. Victor Lindelof | Up votes: 14.4k

Lindelof has established himself as a starter at centre-back. He's played 99 times for the club since signing for €35 million in 2017.

7. Harry Maguire | Up votes: 14.8k

Maguire has been decent but not spectacular since his £80m move from Leicester last summer. Now club captain, United fans will be looking for him to step up and lead the club back to their past glories.

6. Daniel James | Up votes: 17k

Signed for just £15m, James has been a steal. His form has declined since a good start fo the club, though.

5. Ander Herrera | Up votes: 17.5k

United fans were left disappointed when Herrera left on a free transfer for PSG last summer. He managed 189 games for United and was a popular figure.

4. Aaron Wan-Bissaka | Up votes: 17.6k

Wan-Bissaka has been one of the best right-backs in the Premier League since his summer move from Crystal Palace.

3. Sergio Romero | Up votes: 18.3k

Romero is potentially the best back-up goalkeeper in the world. He's been extremely solid whenever he has been called upon.

2. Zlatan Ibrahimovic | Up votes: 18.9k

United got Zlatan when he was in his mid-30's but, despite his age, he was a success. He managed 29 goals in 53 games and helped United to three titles.

1. Juan Mata | Up votes: 20.5k

Mata has been a great servant to United. He's been a mainstay since signed for £37m in 2014.

So Falcao has been voted United's worst signing in the post-Ferguson era. To be honest, it could have been either him, Schneiderlin or even Di Maria, all of whom were massively underwhelming.

Despite his injuries, Rojo being rated just the 22nd best signing seems a little harsh. He always gave it his all on the pitch and perhaps should have been ranked higher.

Pogba, despite his faults, should also be rated higher than 18th. His attitude, combined with him saying publicly he wants to leave, must have been taken into account.

Fred is ranked 14th, but he is currently on the rise and is definitely winning over more and more United fans every game.

Signing Ibrahimovic was a masterstroke, despite his advancing years. But he's rightfully behind Mata, who has been a good servant in his seven-season spell.
