Liverpool tipped to match Barcelona's golden era by Dejan Lovren

Dejan Lovren has challenged Liverpool to embark on a golden era that matches the success of Barcelona’s greatest period.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are on fire this season, having already added the Super Cup and Club World Cup to last year’s Champions League triumph.

They’re now closing in on their first-ever Premier League title and need just six wins to secure that. But Lovren wants even more.

Between 2009 and 2015, Barca won a ridiculous 16 major trophies and now the Liverpool centre-back has challenged his teammates to match that.

“I’ve been there from the beginning with Jurgen and it took a while, two or three years, to build everything up,” the Croatian said, per The Sun.

“We clicked this year, maybe even last year, but we missed out by one point on the Premier League title. Now we understand each other, what we need, what we want.

“I especially want us to be remembered like the Barcelona team which won all those trophies.

“Why should we not? I think we can do it – and I want to be remembered as one of the best teams that ever played. Not only for this year but for many, many years.”

With three trophies in 2019, it’s not out of the question for Liverpool to dominate in a similar vein to Barcelona

During their golden era, the Blaugrana won five La Liga titles, three Champions Leagues, three Copa del Reys, three Club World Cups and two Super Cups.

In 2009 alone they won six trophies, completing the famous ‘sextuple’.

Can Klopp inspire similar success at Anfield? We honestly wouldn’t be that surprised.

The Reds have dominated in the Premier League this season and still have a chance to complete the treble in May by winning the FA Cup and another Champions League title.

If they can do all that and go Invincible as well, then there’s evidence to suggest Liverpool could even out-do Barca’s golden era.
