Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa 'likes to get naked and lay on a table for 30 minutes' after losing

Brentford v Leeds United - Sky Bet Championship

Marcelo Bielsa is one of the most interesting characters in football.

The Argentine’s nickname is ‘El Loco’ - The Crazy One - and some of the stories that have been told about him are just incredible.

You may have heard the one about Bielsa drawing on his shoes to show players which part of the foot they should be using. Or the one about him visiting a convent to ask nuns to pray for his team.

The Leeds United manager walks around his technical area in exactly 13 steps - a lucky number in South America - and once told one of his players he’d chop off his own finger if it meant a victory.

A true cult hero, yet more stories have been revealed about Bielsa that add to his reputation as football’s biggest madcap.

Former Liverpool player Mark Gonzalez and current Chile international Jose Pedro Fuenzalida both played under Bielsa during his time in charge of Chile’s national side from 2007 until 2011.

During an appearance on Chile TV show Abrazo de GOL, the pair were asked to recall some good stories from their playing days - and Gonzalez recalled the time Bielsa got naked and laid on a table for 30 minutes after a defeat to Ecuador.

“Bielsa entered the dressing room. He was really hot, walking up and down, not speaking with anybody,” Gonzalez said, per The Sun.

“There was another dressing room next to us and he was there.

"We walked in and he was completely naked, laying on top of a treatment table like someone was going to perform surgery on him.

He was there for about 30 minutes, totally naked.

Fuenzalida added: “It happened to me several times. We lost a final 1-0 to Italy playing well and missing a lot of players.

"He even fought with the Italy manager. He went to the dressing room angry, and when we entered he was going mad walking around and taking off his clothes."

Given some of the stories about Bielsa, finding out that he strips off after defeats doesn’t even come as much of a surprise.
