British lightweight amateur Caroline Dubois has hit out at the lack of quality and depth in women’s professional boxing as she seeks to become professional after this year’s Olympics.

Dubois is set to compete in a qualifying event for the 2020 Olympics at the Copper Box Arena in March.

Aged just 19, she is already the youth Olympic, World and European champion but is targeting more success this year.

“The Olympics has been a dream for a long time,” she said. “After that I want to step up.”

Dubois is undefeated in her amateur career so far, having fought 40 times. She takes inspiration from the likes of Nicola Adams and Katie Taylor who have gone on to become world champion.

"If I win the gold, I want to go even further and go professional,” she said. “ The professional ranks need amateurs to turn pro and then you will get the quality and depth that is lacking right now.”

Dubois plans to retire by the age of 27, in order to settle down and have a family. She believes this to be sufficient time to achieve all that she wants to from the sport, which includes winning an Olympic Gold and becoming a World Champion.

Winner of the 2019 Young Sports Personality Of The Year, Dubois is not the only boxer in her family. Brother, Daniel Dubois is also an undefeated fighter in the heavyweight division and will face Joe Joyce at the O2 in April.

Both fighters ooze a level of confidence and maturity well beyond their years and seem destined for bright futures. Whilst Caroline Dubois recognises that she might not have the same level of experience as many amateurs and indeed professional fighters, she is confident enough that with her overall boxing ability, she can beat anyone.
