Wladimir Klitschko surprisingly hopes that Tyson Fury beats Deontay Wilder in upcoming rematch

Anthony Joshua v Wladimir Klitschko Press Conference

Wladimir Klitschko has revealed that he wants Tyson Fury to come out on top when he takes on Deontay Wilder in their monumental rematch later this month.

The former two-time world champion was speaking during a visit to the UAE when he made the revelation.

After a long-running rivalry with Fury, it is perhaps a bit surprising that the Ukrainian favours the Brit over Wilder.

Speaking to The National, Klitschko outlined just how he thought the fight might go, claiming that if Fury is to win, it will be by points decision.

“Either Wilder is going to knock out Fury or Fury is going to win on points," he began.

“I think, or I wish, that actually Fury, believe it or not, might make it.

"Maybe not, but I wish he’s going to. And then there’s supposed to be a rematch between Fury and me. Am I announcing now a comeback? No, I’m not."

Turning to the camera, Klitschko quipped: “Mark my words, I’m not announcing a rematch.”

He added: “But it could possibly be a good mix when, all of a sudden, Fury is going to win and a lot of different doors are going to open and excitement and things like that.

"But as I said, Wilder is going to win by knockout or Fury could win on points.”

Fury is a slight favourite with the bookies to finally settle the score in the upcoming rematch after the original bout ended in a controversial draw.

Should he do so, he will snatch the WBC world heavyweight title off of the American and continue his incredible unbeaten record.

As a member of the not-so-exclusive Tyson Fury victims club, Klitschko is well placed to pass judgement.

Fury upset all the odds when he beat Klitschko in 2015 and now he stands on the cusp of what could be an even greater night.

The Gypsy King was always destined for greatness and, finally, it is within his grasp.
