Chelsea are on the verge of signing Ajax star Hakim Ziyech. The Blues are the only side to have been in contact with the Moroccan playmaker in the past few months and personal terms are expected to be agreed in the coming days. The Athletic's David Ornstein tweeted: "Chelsea have verbal agreement with Ajax to sign Hakim Ziyech for €45m in summer."€30m release clause removed via new deal in Aug. Personal terms not done yet, likely in coming days. CFC only club in talks with Ajax (since Dec), developed this week."That €45m fee is an absolute steal for a 26-year-old who has taken European football by storm in recent years.

The deal will also come as a hammer blow to Arsenal fans, because the Gunners would surely have been in pole-position to sign Ziyech had they actually shown any interest.

Why you ask? Because back in 2017, Ziyech admitted in an interview that signing for Arsenal would be an 'ultimate dream'.

When asked by then Ajax teammate Justin Kluivert in 2017 about his future preferences, Ziyech said: "Well, I have two clubs. They are Arsenal and Barcelona. That is my ultimate dream."

Now the midfielder - who already has 21 assists to his name for Ajax this season - is set to don Chelsea's famous blue jersey, while Arsenal have to make do with Mesut Ozil.

Ziyech would have been the perfect replacement for the out-of-form German, with Ozil failing to score once this season and registering just two assists in 19 games.

The stats do not lie, Arsenal have missed out big time.

For Chelsea, the outlook is nothing but positive and the promise of Ziyech supplying the likes of Christian Pulisic, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Tammy Abraham is one that will generate huge excitement.

If they can add a few more stellar signings in the summer, Frank Lampard's team are going to be a serious threat in 2020/21.
