With NXT UK now on free-to-air television in its country of origin, 2020 is the year that British wrestlers get more and more exposure.

The brand has been ready to explode after some killer events in 2019, and now that Paramount Network have become the host of NXT UK in the United Kingdom, the likes of Tyler Bate, WALTER and co can be seen by millions on these shores.

It is perhaps the year of the British wrestler, what with Drew McIntyre main eventing WrestleMania 36 against Brock Lesnar, and one gritty Brit who has been with the company for a number of years is Danny Burch.

After a brief stint as enhancement talent between 2012 and 2014, Burch returned in 2015 with a vengeance, but it took him until 2017 to establish himself on the NXT brand.

He feuded with fellow brawler Oney Lorcan until they ended up teaming up together, and their finest hour came in June 2018 at TakeOver: Chicago II, where they unsuccessfully tried to dethrone Undisputed Era from the tag team division.

Burch believes that match is the highlight of his career so far and he was overwhelmed with the reaction of the crowd post-match.

"That night is something I’ll never forget," said Burch regarding the classic match against Kyle O'Reilly and Roderick Strong.

"I’d literally filled out all my paperwork and I essentially restarted with the company on the Monday, and that Wednesday was when the storyline started with me and Oney to take on Undisputed Era.

"But to have that match and to hear that reaction from the crowd, especially as at the start it was a very hostile crowd who were very pro Undisputed Era, they didn’t really want anything to do with us.

To feel the crowd switch halfway through that match and to have them stand and give us the applause was a really special moment and so far it has been the biggest highlight of my career.

"I still haven’t watched the match back - I’m my own worst critic so I like to leave the memory intact as it is but that was an absolutely amazing night and I’m very thankful for the position that the company put me in that night."

As mentioned previously, Burch signed for WWE in 2011 but only reported to Florida Championship Wrestling the following year, and then made his NXT debut in 2013 against Bray Wyatt.

Burch was used as a jobber until his eventual release in 2014, but he found himself back in WWE just a year later, and the man himself believes that the company letting him go was the best thing that has happened to him.

"100 per cent it was the best thing that could’ve happened to me," said Burch.

"It gave me a chance to look deep within myself to see if this is really what I want to do.

"I’d never questioned it before, but getting released the first time I did question whether this was for me or not, or whether I was good enough for this - and here we are five years later and I’ve had so much more success.

I got the chance to get in the best shape of my career, to get as much exposure as I could in America, and I do think it was a positive.

Burch has wrestled some of WWE's best talents in recent years, including all four members of Undisputed Era, Pete Dunne, Street Profits and many others.

And when pressed on what matches he'd like to be involved in going forward - both as a tag team with Lorcan and as a singles wrestler - the list was endless!

"I’d love to tear it up with Timothy Thatcher," Burch admitted - Thatcher being a new recruit to WWE and is expected to work on NXT.

"I would love to work alongside Oney against The Revival, I think us against them would be absolutely terrific and I’d love to tear it up with the Viking Raiders as well.

"I’d love to get in the ring with Matt Riddle - there’s so much talent here and across the UK as well. I’m really  impressed with Ilja Dragunov, he’s an absolute fire-cracker.

"And out of British Strong Style I’ve only wrestled Pete Dunne so I’d love to get in there with Tyler [Bate] and Trent [Seven] as a team and as singles matches. There’s so much competition and it really makes me excited."
