World XI of the players whose market value has increased most during 2019-20 season

There are always many footballers in Europe’s top leagues who enhance their reputations in a season.

This season we’ve seen the likes of Erling Haaland, Ansu Fati and Lautaro Martinez all cement their status as household names on the continent.

In the Premier League, meanwhile, players like Jack Grealish, James Maddison and Tammy Abraham have all become star names.

Some of the aforementioned players feature in Transfermarkt’s ‘biggest market value winners in 2019-20’ XI.

These are the players in every position who have seen their market value rise most since last summer.

Goalkeeper: Alex Meret | Napoli

Market value: €40m (€15m increase)

Currently Napoli’s first-choice goalkeeper ahead of David Ospina, 22-year-old Alex Meret earned his first cap for the Italian national team back in November.

Now worth €40 million, according to Transfermarkt, Meret has seen a €15 million jump in his market value.

Defender: Trent Alexander-Arnold | Liverpool

Market value: €110m (€30m increase)

Trent Alexander-Arnold has enjoyed a meteoric rise to superstardom over the past couple of years.

One of the best passers in the Premier League, it’s amazing to think Liverpool’s first-choice right-back only turned 21 back in October.

Alexander-Arnold has scored two goals and registered an incredible 12 assists for his club this season.

Defender: Caglar Soyuncu | Leicester City

Market value: €40m (€25m increase)

There were fears for Leicester after they lost their most talented and talismanic defender, Harry Maguire, to Manchester United last summer.

But Caglar Soyuncu has been a revelation for the Foxes this season. The Turkey international, who is only 23, is arguably one of the best centre-backs in the Premier League right now.

Defender: Alphonso Davies | Bayern Munich

Market value: €40m (€30m increase)

The 2019-20 campaign has been Alphonso Davies’ breakthrough season.

The Canada international, 19, has made 26 appearances in all competitions for Bayern Munich at the time of writing, scoring one goal and setting up six more.

The lightning-quick teenager is certainly one to keep a close eye on during the Champions League knockout stages.

Midfielder: Eduardo Camavinga | Rennes

Market value: €35m (€31m increase)

The youngest player in this XI, 17-year-old Eduardo Camavinga has played in 22 of 24 league fixtures for Rennes, who sit third in Ligue 1.

It surely won’t be long before the France Under-21 international represents his country at senior level.

Midfielder: Denis Zakaria | Borussia Mönchengladbach

Market value: €45m (€25m increase)

Linked with the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool and Tottenham earlier this season, Denis Zakaria is a 23-year-old defensive midfielder who Borussia Mönchengladbach may struggle to keep hold of this summer.

Zakaria, who has scored three goals in 24 games for Switzerland, has seen his market value more than doubled since August.

Market value: €35m (€34m increase)

Valued at just €1 million at the start of the season, Dejan Kulusevski has made 25 appearances for Parma (on loan from Juventus) this season, scoring five goals and registering seven assists.

Aged just 19, the Sweden international will be hoping to force his way into Juve’s starting line-up next term.

Left-wing: Ansu Fati | Barcelona

Market value: €40m (€40m increase)

Ansu Fati wasn’t even a household name in his own home this time last year. Now he’s a star, playing alongside the likes of Lionel Messi and Antoine Griezmann at Camp Nou.

The 17-year-old became Barcelona’s youngest La Liga scorer and the youngest goalscorer in Champions League history earlier this season.

He’s scored five goals and provided one assist in 20 appearances for the Catalan giants this season and has a huge future ahead of him.

Attacking midfielder: Martin Odegaard | Real Sociedad

Market value: €50m (€35m increase)

The jury was out over Martin Odegaard following unspectacular loan spells at Heerenveen and Vitesse, but the Norwegian playmaker has proved he’s a genuine top player during his current loan period with Real Sociedad.

The 21-year-old’s value has rocketed from €15 million to €50 million in recent months thanks to his eye-catching displays and it wouldn’t be a shock if Zinedine Zidane has plans to finally integrate him into Real Madrid’s first team next season.

With six goals and eight assists for La Real, Odegaard appears to have all the tools to become a world-class player.

Striker: Lautaro Martinez | Inter Milan

Market value: €80m (€50m increase)

Some of Europe’s biggest clubs are sniffing around Lautaro Martinez, who has scored 16 goals in 27 games for Inter Milan this season.

The Argentina international, 22, was valued at €30 million at the start of the campaign. That figure has shot right up to the €80 million-mark.

Striker: Erling Haaland | Borussia Dortmund

Market value: €60m (€55m increase)

Nineteen-year-old Erling Haaland has the world at his feet.

The Norway international has scored goals for fun this season, for both RB Salzburg and his current club Borussia Dortmund.

In 27 games for the two clubs, Haaland has netted an astonishing 36 goals and provided eight assists. These are numbers that Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo would be proud of.

His value has skyrocketed by €55 million over the course of the season and that figure will continue to increase between now and May.
