Just when it looked like Jadon Sancho was Manchester United-bound, Liverpool enter the race to sign the Borussia Dortmund winger.Sancho will leave his current employers at the end of the season, according to various sources, and United are believed to be in pole position to seal the 19-year-old’s signature. The Mirror reported on Wednesday night that Sancho is ready to snub interest from other clubs - including Chelsea and Real Madrid - in order to sign for the Red Devils.United are prepared to make Sancho, 19, one of their top earners on £200,000-a-week.They also see him as the club’s next poster boy, which surely means there’s a chance he’ll be handed the famous No. 7 shirt - depending on what happens with Alexis Sanchez this summer.

However, the Daily Mail are now reporting that Liverpool have contacted Dortmund, expressing their desire to sign the England international this summer.

This is obviously concerning news for United, who are not challenging for major titles at this moment in time, unlike their fierce rivals.

The Mail’s report adds: ‘Liverpool are about to enter into a club-record kit deal with Sancho's sponsors Nike, and will hope manager Jurgen Klopp's connections with Dortmund, who he led for seven years, will work in their favour in pursuit of the Londoner.’

They also point out that Sancho is good friends with Liverpool first-team trio Trent Alexander-Arnold, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Jordan Henderson, as well as Rhian Brewster.

Sancho and Brewster, who is currently on loan at Swansea, helped England win the Under-17 World Cup in 2017.

In order to sign Sancho, Liverpool would need to break their transfer record and make him their first £100 million signing.

That’s the fee Dortmund are expected to demand for the teenager, who has also attracted the attention of Barcelona.

As well as firm interest from United and Liverpool, the Mail say that Manchester City are also expected to bid for Sancho, who played for the Citizens at youth level before joining Dortmund in a deal worth £8 million in August 2017.

Sancho has further enhanced his reputation as one of the best young players in the world this season, scoring 15 goals and providing 17 assists in 29 games.

He became the youngest player to reach 25 Bundesliga goals last month and is expected to be part of Gareth Southgate’s England squad for this summer’s European Championships.

United remain the bookmakers’ favourites to sign Sancho at the time of writing, but Liverpool are already the second favourites following this latest report.

This transfer battle looks set to seriously intensify.
