During WWE Backstage on Tuesday Night, the return of a WWE legend to their programming was confirmed.

He's not been seen since Raw Reunion way back in July, but John Cena is taking a small break from his extremely busy acting career to return 'home' to WWE.

Cena has been winding down in the last couple of years when it comes to in-ring action, his last match coming on Raw in January last year in a Fatal Four-Way bout which Finn Balor won.

His Hollywood career though is soaring to new heights, after he landed a key role in the Fast & Furious series, where he will portray Vin Diesel's on-screen brother in Fast 9, which is due to be released in May of this year.

For once though, Cena doesn't have any filming to do, which means he can do what he loves the most - wrestle.

When SmackDown rolls into Boston on February 28, Cena will be there, and it's perhaps fitting that Boston is the place where he returns considering it's in his home state of Massachusetts.

It's pretty certain now that Cena will be competing at WrestleMania 36 in Tampa considering he's returning five weeks before, and Tampa just so happens to be the city he now resides in, so this event should be special.

And whilst we don't know yet who he will face, the choice is all Cena's apparently.

According to WrestleVotes, WWE officials have given the 16-time world champion complete freedom for his Mania plans, which means it looks like he's choosing the opponent and maybe even the outcome of the match itself.

Considering the stage of his career that he's at, you'd like to think that Cena will put over a fresher, younger talent on the Grandest Stage of Them All, and one man he's spoken very highly about is NXT star Velveteen Dream.

A win over Cena could put Dream on the path to superstardom, but if it's not him, then who could it be?

It looks like Daniel Bryan may not have a targeted WrestleMania opponent yet, so him and Cena could perhaps run their 2013 SummerSlam match back.

There's a huge roster out there ready to take Cena on in Tampa, and we will soon find out which path the Doctor of Thuganomics will be going down.
