Liverpool have joined the race to sign Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund in the summer.

Various sources state that the English forward will be leaving Germany at the end of the season and the bidding war for the 19-year-old star has already begun.

Manchester United are the current favourites to sign Sancho, but Liverpool's entrance into the race poses a serious problem for the Red Devils.

Jurgen Klopp's side are currently the best team in the world and are a far more attractive prospect on paper than United right now.

However, the big talking point would be game time, given that Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane have Liverpool's three forward positions locked down.

But Klopp faces several predicaments with his famous attacking trident going in to the 2020/21 season and they actually strengthen the case for Liverpool splashing £100m+ on Sancho.

Salah is expected to play for Egypt at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, meaning he will miss the beginning of next season.

The former Roma man and Mane could also both miss up to six weeks of domestic action due to the mid-season African Cup of Nations.

With Salah - and to a lesser extent Mane - set to be unavailable for a considerable amount of time, Sancho would all but certainly be afforded the necessary game time by Klopp.

The only issue with signing Sancho would be his enormous fee, which would be a minimum of £100m.

As The Athletic's James Pearce points out, Liverpool may be unwilling to match Dortmund's valuation due to the availability of RB Leipzig's Timo Werner for a cheaper price.

Pearce wrote on Twitter: "I’d be very surprised. Just can’t see LFC paying £100m plus for him. Werner a cheaper and more likely option as reported last week."

Werner's ability to play out on the wing, as well as a centre-forward, makes him a very attractive proposition, especially at a reduced price of around £51m (which is reportedly his release clause).

However, the Daily Mail state that Liverpool only have until April to activate that clause for the 23-year-old.

But it is still essentially a win-win for Liverpool, though.

They will all but certainly snap up one of the Bundesliga's best players to add to their already star-studded squad for the 2020/21 season.
