Andy Murray has suffered a further injury setback, with reports circulating that the British tennis icon will now miss the upcoming Miami Open.

After a triumphant return to the ATP Tour during the latter half of the 2019 season, Murray has struggled with injury since his European Open victory in October.

The three-time Grand Slam champion played in Great Britain’s Davis Cup opener in November last year, but missed the remainder of the tournament with a groin injury.

After initially announcing he would play in the Australian Open, the former World No.1 was then forced to withdraw from the season-opening Grand Slam, as well as events in Montpellier and Rotterdam as his hip once again proved to be the issue.

The historic Miami Masters, which is set to commence on March 23, was believed to be a realistic target for the 32-year-old Scot, however, reports have emerged that Murray will now need further rehabilitation on his hip.

“The bone bruise is taking longer to heal than first thought,” he said, per tennishead.net.

The ATP Tour will switch to clay after Miami, but it appears Murray will also skip the red shale season with Sportsmail reporting that he is “getting himself right for the grass courts in June.”

Murray’s experiences in coming back too quickly have coloured his latest strategy, although he remains determined to be fit for the bigger tournaments this year, especially Wimbledon and the Tokyo Olympic Games, where he hopes to add to his already impressive tally of trophies and gold medals.

His current world ranking is 128, and with another lengthy spell like this off the court, tennis fans can only dream that Murray will emerge from this latest setback to thrive and become a champion once again.
