James Maddison has been one of the Premier League’s standout performers this season.

The 23-year-old, who joined Leicester City from Norwich City in 2018, has scored six goals and provided five assists for the Foxes this term.

His eye-catching performances also led to a first England cap earlier this season.

Maddison has been strongly linked with a move to Manchester United in recent days.

The Sun reported earlier this week that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is plotting a stunning £160 million double deal for Maddison and Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish.

That report claimed that United are prepared to pay Maddison a whopping £200,000-a-week - which is double the amount Leicester will offer him to sign a new contract.

Maddison is currently contracted to Leicester until 2023, so he certainly won’t come cheap this summer.

However, the Manchester Evening News are reporting that Maddison *does* want to join the Red Devils.

Sources close to Maddison have told the MEN that the midfielder ‘would have been at United years ago’ if it was up to him.

United presumably already know this, hence why they’re pushing to sign the England international.

But the news will convince fans that there’s now a genuine possibility that Maddison will be plying his trade at Old Trafford from next season onwards.

With Paul Pogba expected to leave this summer, United are in the market for at least one new creative midfielder.

Bruno Fernandes has already arrived from Sporting Lisbon, of course, but the acquisition of Maddison would be a huge coup for the Premier League giants as they continue rebuilding following several disappointing campaigns.

The MEN add that the purchase of Fernandes has not impacted United’s interest in Maddison or Grealish, and that the club are expected to make a minimum of three signings this summer.
