Steven Gerrard still thinks about the heartbreak of Liverpool's title challenge in 2013/14 to this day.

During an episode of Gary Neville's 'Soccerbox', the legendary midfield explained: “I think it was very cruel. I still struggle to get my head around that one. It felt different that year.

"There was a belief and the way the fans were acting and stuff that it was our year. That affected me right through the summer. Still to this day, it has an effect now. It still dwindles.

"It makes me more hungry and driven from a manager point of view, for sure. But away from the manager side of it, I still have moments to this day. I think I’ll have them for the rest of my life.”

But what if we were to tell you that Gerrard could actually win a Premier League medal for that season? Stick with us on this.

Could Man City be stripped of a title?

It's been well publicised that Manchester City have been banned from the Champions League for two seasons, pending their appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

However, there's an air of mystery around how the Premier League will punish the findings themselves and a report in the Daily Mail suggests that retrospective action could be taken.

It's claimed that the Citizens could face the possibility of losing their 2014 Premier League title win if a separate investigation from the Premier League found that they broke financial rules.

Liverpool fans want Gerrard to get a medal

The team that finished second that season? You know it, Gerrard's Liverpool.

Does that mean the Reds would be upgraded to title winners? Honestly, we have no way of telling at this stage and especially when you consider City being stripped would be near-unprecedented.

But try telling those caveats to Liverpool fans, because they're already pushing the narrative on Twitter that Gerrard, as well as his 2013/14 teammates, should be given a winner's medal.

One fan wrote: "I beg this happens, 2 PL titles in one season. Gerrard would get his PL medal, meaning the Gerrard slip meme is meaningless. That’d serve all the City fans right for using it over the years, the ultimate karma."

Another penned: "I don’t care that I didn’t get a chance to celebrate it at the time. If the #PremierLeague decide to impose a 3+ points deduction on City’s 2013-14 season, I would be happy purely to see Steven Gerrard with a winner’s medal."

And one posted: "If this happens and Steven Gerrard gets a Premier League medal I might cry... No one deserves one more than Steven Gerrard."

GIVEMESPORT's Kobe Tong says

Will Liverpool become Premier League champions twice over in one season? Sorry, but it's unlikely.

The 2005-06 season in Serie A goes to show that teams being given medals having initially finished second can happen, but the cases are so wildly different that it's hard to take much credence from it.

Plus, even though it would be nice to see Gerrard getting the medal he so badly deserves, you've got to admit that it would be bittersweet as we approach six years since the campaign itself.

It would need to proven beyond doubt by the Premier League that City won the title in 2014 by way of cheating for them to take the unchartered step of renegotiating the winner.

But hey, Gerrard or not, you're still be getting plenty of Premier League medals this year, Kopites.
