England have beaten South Africa with a thrilling chase of 223 to win the T20 series 2-1.

England were inspired by their captain Eoin Morgan, who was in fantastic form and hit 57 not out from 22 balls.

South Africa finished on an impressive 222 for six, leaving England with lots of work to do.

But Morgan led them to their second-highest chase in T20s with five balls remaining and was named Man of the Match and Series for his performance.

Morgan hit seven sixes and was joined by Jonny Bairstow (64) and Jos Buttler (57), who also reached half-centuries as England took the win at the SuperSport Park ground in Centurion.

South Africa ensured there was no easy victory for the visitors as 28-year-old Heinrich Klaasen helped them to a good start with a 33-ball 66.

England needed 53 runs from the final four overs, which is when Morgan took control and hit consecutive sixes. Last year’s World Cup hero Ben Stokes also helped England’s cause with 22 runs.

Moeen Ali, now playing domestic cricket in India with Royal Challengers Bangalore, hit a boundary to secure the win for England.

Captain Morgan had this to say after the match.

“It has been an extremely satisfying series. We started the series rusty and lost a game we should have won so I’m proud of the guys for the way they have fought back.”

The series has been a memorable one after final-ball finishes in the previous two games.

England’s next match will be away against Sri Lanka in March, before the T20 World Cup starts in Australia on October 18.
