Manchester City fans have been coming to terms with the fact that, as things stand, their team won’t be playing in the Champions League for the next two seasons. The club are planning to launch an appeal against UEFA’s ruling to ban them from the European competition for the 2020/21 and 2021/22 campaigns. But it will take a vigorous effort to get the ban completely wiped out. According to The Athletic, senior figures in football believe the ban will be reduced to one season.City supporters have been made to wait to see their team succeed in the Champions League. They’ve won the Premier League four times and the FA Cup in 2011 and 2019 - but the Champions League has remained out of reach.

The club were found to have broken Financial Fair Play regulations (FFP) and were also hit with a €30 million fine.

But the ruling hasn’t gone down well with one supporter who took to talkSPORT to vent his frustrations.

The fan claims FFP has been “hijacked” by UEFA to ensure the elite clubs stay at the top of the game and don’t allow newly-wealthy clubs to break in.

“Financial Fair Play was brought in to stop situations like Leeds. It was like a car lot - all the players were on lease,” the fan says.

“It’s been hijacked by UEFA and so on, so that clubs like Man City can’t break through.

“These clubs in the Championship, they can’t have investors.

“I agree with Financial Fair Play that we don’t want clubs going bankrupt every two or three seasons, or every season, because the chairman has thrown the money about willy-nilly and not used due diligence with the money.

“Manchester City is not in that situation. Chelsea aren’t in that situation. PSG aren’t in that situation. This goes much, much deeper than Financial Fair Play.

“It’s been hijacked by UEFA to keep the elite, the elite.

“And Man City and other teams coming through, even Paris Saint-Germain, who have never been a big club in Europe, they are going to be the next ones on UEFA’s list.

We have to get rid of Financial Fair Play.

Passionate words from the Man City fan.

Do UEFA have an agenda to protect the big clubs?

It would be hard for them to do so in plain sight.
