Porto kept pace with champions Benfica in the Portuguese title race on Sunday with a 2-1 win away to Vitoria Guimaraes. However, the game was marred by yet another showing of racism in football as Moussa Marega was subjected to discrimination by some of the home supporters. The Porto striker, who was abused several times during the match, scored what turned out to be the winner in the 60th-minute and celebrated by pointing to the colour of his skin.Marega's celebration led to monkey noises from Vitoria fans inside the Estadio D. Afonso Henriques and stadium seats being thrown onto the pitch from the stands.A furious Marega needed to be restrained as he tried to walk off the pitch, so let's take a look at the incident in more detail as well as the reaction of the player and the football community.

Marega racially abused at Vitoria

Per the Daily Mail, Marega initially used one of the chairs thrown his way to celebrate with but, as the abuse continued, he simply had enough and felt he needed to take a stand.

The 28-year-old tried to walk off the pitch and made a "thumbs down" gesture at the abusive fans when he neared the touchline, where he was met by players from both Porto and Vitoria.

As shown in a video further down the page, his own teammates and manager Sergio Conceicao tried to calm Marega down and somehow persuade him to continue playing.

However, the Mali international, who had a loan spell at Vitoria before going on to score over 50 goals for Porto, ended up being taken off the pitch by Porto's backroom staff.

Marega was replaced by Wilson Manafa in the 72nd-minute - here is footage of the incident:

Marega reacts to racial abuse on Instagram

Following the unpleasant scenes during Vitoria 1-2 Porto, Marega took to Instagram to condemn the racist fans and referee Luis Miguel Branco Godinho for giving him a yellow card.

His post, translated into English, reads: "I'd like to tell those idiots that came to the stadium to shout racist abuse... go f*** yourself.

"I also want to congratulate the referee for not protecting me and showing me a yellow card because I'm defending my skin colour. I hope I never meet him again on a football pitch!!"

Marega, who joined Porto in 2016 and scored in six consecutive Champions League games last season, added: "YOU'RE A DISGRACE!!!"
