Boss Dario Gradi could make changes against Southend as Crewe prepare for a fourth game in 11 days.

Gradi, who has named the same starting XI for the last three matches, may have Matt Tootle available again.

The full-back was on the bench against Chesterfield on Saturday following a two-game absence due to a virus.

If fully-fit, he is a strong contender to come back into the side while Danny Shelley, who came off the bench to score a late free-kick and seal a 2-0 victory over the league leaders, may also have done enough to earn a start.

Midfielder Joel Grant and forward Ajay Leitch-Smith are also options for Gradi although both are likely to be on the bench once again.

Southend boss Paul Sturrock has a doubt over Peter Gilbert.

The left-back suffered an ankle injury during the first half of Saturday's 2-1 defeat against Lincoln and, thus, had to be replaced by Miguel Comminges at half-time.

Comminges will again fill in for Gilbert if he fails to recover in time to face the Railwaymen.

Defender Bilel Mohsni remains sidelined with ankle ligament damage, but midfielder Kane Ferdinand is expected to retain his place after returning from an ankle injury against the Imps.

Fellow midfielder Anthony Grant is pushing for a recall after replacing Craig Easton for the final 40 minutes at the weekend.

The Shrimpers will be hoping to end a run of four league games without a win as they aim to keep their slim play-off hopes alive.
