WWE NXT TakeOver: Portland was a fantastic show and it will go down as one of, if not, the best TakeOver shows in NXT history.

The night began with Keith Lee successfully retaining the NXT North American Championship in a stellar match vs Dominik Dijakovic.

Dakota Kai then managed to defeat Tegan Nox in a Street Fight thanks to some outside interference by Raquel Gonzalez, followed by Finn Balor getting a win over Johnny Gargano.

Rhea Ripley then successfully defended her NXT Women’s title vs Bianca Belair, but she was attacked by Charlotte Flair after the match, kicking off their WrestleMania 36 feud.

Matt Riddle and Pete Dunne of The BroserWeights then capitalized on their Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic momentum by defeating The Undisputed Era’s Bobby Fish and Kyle O’Reilly for the NXT Tag Team Championships.

Finally, in the main event, Adam Cole successfully retained the NXT Championship vs Tommaso Ciampa after outside interference by Gargano.

So much great stuff happened at TakeOver: Portland that will cement its place as one of the best TakeOvers ever, but there are still superstars who may have gained or lost stock inside the squared circle on the night.

Winner – Rhea Ripley

A big and obvious winner from TakeOver: Portland is Rhea Ripley, as not only did she defend her NXT Women’s title vs Bianca Belair, but she also booked her date with Charlotte Flair at WrestleMania 36.

Like many superstars on the card on Sunday night, The Nightmare put on an incredible performance in the ring, continuing her momentum that started way back at WarGames and Survivor Series.

Now, she’s on the path to defend her title at the Showcase of Immortals, the first time an NXT Championship will be defended on the show.

Loser – Raquel Gonzalez

It’s clear as to why Raquel Gonzalez was involved in the Tegan Nox vs Dakota Kai match at TakeOver: Portland; to even up the numbers for Kai against Nox and Candice LeRae.

However, botching a spot can kill all momentum before it even begins, as that’s exactly what happened to Gonzalez.

Gonzalez was supposed to slam Nox through the table from the top rope, but her aim was off, which caused only Nox’s head to hit the table instead. Clearly accidental, but it could have caused a serious injury.

Winner – Keith Lee & Dominik Dijakovic

Keith Lee and Dominik Dijakovic were given the difficult task of opening TakeOver: Portland, and they delivered with flying colours, exceeding the high expectations fans already had for the pair.

Very rarely do you see two big superstars deliver the athleticism that Lee and Dijakovic produced inside the squared circle on Sunday night.

Although Lee managed to retain the NXT North American title on the night, both superstars left the arena in a much stronger position, and the future is bright for both of them as well.

Loser – Johnny Gargano

Johnny Gargano is an excellent in-ring performer, hence the name ‘Johnny Wrestling’, but he suffered more than just a loss on the night, as he lost a friend too.

Following his defeat, Gargano interfered in the show’s main event, hitting Tommaso Ciampa with the NXT Championship, turning heel once more in the process too.

It’s becoming a bit difficult to understand what Johnny Wrestling stands for, especially when over the past couple of weeks, he’s been at Balor for his heel behaviour. The time might have been better saved for later this week if it was destined to happen.

Winner – The BroserWeights

When fans look back at tag teams who had instant chemistry in the ring and were a joy to watch, The BroserWeights will now be in the top part of the list.

Riddle and Dunne are now one of the hottest tag teams in WWE thanks to their NXT Tag Team title win at TakeOver: Portland. It’s going to be exciting to see where the team goes next.

The relationship between Riddle and Dunne is only going to get stronger now they’re champions. They’ve gone from individuals to a cohesive team in a matter of weeks that could be at the top of NXT’s tag team division for months to come.
