Naturally, Manchester City fans haven’t taken too well to their Champions League ban. There was the caller on talkSPORT on Sunday evening who accused UEFA of ‘hijacking’ Financial Fair Play in order to prevent teams from joining the elite. And take a look through Twitter and you’ll see a barrage of tweets from angry City fans who believe they’ve been treated unfairly. The club are fighting UEFA’s ruling that will see them miss the Champions League for the next two seasons. They are reportedly confident of getting the ban overturned and are prepared to present plenty of evidence to support their case.

It’s going to be an ugly legal battle that could stretch on for some time.

City fans have expressed their displeasure with UEFA in the past and their decision to punish the club has only heightened the anger among supporters, who already boo the Champions League anthem.

And with the ban now being handed out, fans have been thinking of ways to show exactly how they feel about the governing body.

You know what this calls for? A banner.

That's right. City fans have raised more than £4,500 to arrange for an anti-UEFA banner to appear during their home game against Real Madrid in the Champions League in March.

1894 Group, who arranged the GoFundMe, have targeted £6,000 for the banner. They've already amassed £5,900 at the time of writing.

The GoFundMe page reads: "Fans have contacted 1894 Group willing to donate to banners so they can express themselves on the night of Madrid at home.

"There will be many schools of thought as to what should go on these banners so for now we will to collate donations and we will go back to you all individually for your suggestions.

"It's about capturing the mood of the fan base for the whole world to see but also to ensure that the team know the fans are 100% behind them on the night.

"Please share far and wide."

Another form of protest that is being discussed is by performing the Poznan.

City fans adopted the Poznan - a celebration in which fans turn their back to the pitch, link arms and bounce up and down - in 2010. They took it after being impressed with Lech Poznan’s passionate fans when they played against them in the Europa League.

And a number of supporters are calling for it to be performed during the anthem before they host Real Madrid in the Champions League on March 17.

The meeting against the Spanish giants will come in the second leg of their round of 16 clash. The first leg will be played in Madrid on February 26.

It promises to be an enthralling affair that has been given an added spice thanks to City’s punishment.
