Brandon Williams has been one of the shining lights of Manchester United's season.

Positives haven't been easy to come by for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, but the talented left-back looks as if he will be a mainstay in the first-team for many years to come.

Williams has played 10 Premier League games in 2019/20, accumulating 686 minutes of action for United.

The teenager was one of the best players on the pitch last night during the club's 2-0 win away at Chelsea, meaning he will all but certainly add to his game time in the coming months.

United have a history of allowing their youth products to thrive in the first-team and Solskjaer's reign has been no different.

Williams, Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood have been the standout names to excel from the youth system since the Norwegian's arrival.

It's something which United hold over bitter rivals Manchester City, with Pep Guardiola placing little to no trust in the club's most exciting youth prospect, Phil Foden.

The English midfielder has made 12 appearances this season, but the majority of these have been short substitute cameos which have seen him accumulate just 259 mins of Premier League action.

Overall, Foden has 634 mins under his belt in the league, 52 less than Williams.

The United starlet has only been in the first-team for a matter of months, while Foden made his Premier league debut way back in the 2017/18 season.

Back in the summer, Guardiola said that Foden was the 'most talented player' he has ever seen, making the Englishman's lack of minutes slightly baffling.

"He has everything to become one of the best players," Guardiola said, per BBC.

"I have said many times in press conferences, but maybe not said it in front of him, Phil is the most, most, most talented player I have ever seen in my career as a manager.

"His only problem is sometimes his manager doesn't put him in the starting XI. Hopefully in the future that can improve."

Of course, Foden is competing with Kevin De Bruyne, David Silva, Ilkay Gundogan and Bernardo Silva for a place in the team, not Luke Shaw.

But Williams' plight during 2019/20 means United will retain their reputation as a viable destination for exciting young talent to thrive.

As for City, they may have to make do with teenage prospects if they're relegated to League Two due to their Champions League ban...
