Burnley defender Richard Eckersley has joined Bury on loan until the end of the season.

The Shakers have been left short of defenders after Efe Sodje and Phil Picken picked up their 10th yellow cards of season in Saturday`s goalless draw at Rotherham.

The duo must now serve two-match bans and full-back Eckersley will go straight into Bury's squad for Tuesday`s clash with Torquay.

Eckersley has made a solitary appearance for the Clarets during the current campaign, starting a Carling Cup tie at Morecambe in August.

The 22-year-old former Manchester United youngster played 12 games in a loan spell with Bradford in League Two earlier this term.

He also gained first-team experience at the end of last season with a temporary stint at Plymouth.
