Is Lewis Hamilton the greatest driver to have ever got behind the wheel of a Formula 1 car?
It is a frightfully difficult question to answer, but the six-time world champion certainly has a very good shot at the title.
Hamilton has won five of the last six Drivers’ Championships and is favourite to add another to his tally of six ahead of what promises to be an exciting 2020 season.
However, the Brit would have to usurp the likes of Ayrton Senna and Michael Schumacher if he wants to ascend the throne of the greatest racer ever, and former driver-turned-pundit David Coulthard just doesn’t think it’s possible.
“I don’t see it,” Coulthard responded when asked whether Hamilton would be ‘dominating in years to come’.

“He got run close on occasions by [teammate] Valtteri Bottas last year, but he had a very strong foundation and he is an exceptional driver so he delivered more often than not.
“I don’t think it was as dominant a year as maybe the points played out but he is the [Ayrton] Senna, Schumacher of this generation.”
Coulthard then stated that, while he would like Hamilton to equal and then break Schumacher’s record of seven titles, he still feels the German holds a greater standing in the history of F1.
“I would like him to break the record though, records are there to be broken.
“However, it doesn’t change anything in the history books if Hamilton does. We would certainly keep referring to Michael.”
In other words, Hamilton is good, but he’s not quite Schumacher.
Schumacher was absolutely unstoppable during his pomp and images of him absolutely ripping around tracks all over the globe in his iconic Ferrari will live long in the memory.
So it seems that, despite a glut of titles, Hamilton still has plenty to prove.
If he really is as hungry as he says he is though, then we probably shouldn’t be surprised if he turns 2020 into yet another title procession.News Now - Sport News
