Celtic have confirmed the signing of Anita Marcos on loan from Atletico Madrid, ahead of their 2020 Scottish Women's Premier League season.

Anita, 19, who plays as a forward, has won two league titles at Atletico, as well as two Under-19 Europeans Championships with Spain.

Marcos will be the club's only Spanish player and joins manager, Fran Alonso as the only Spaniards at the club. The striker has been handed the number 7 shirt at the K-Park Training Academy and had her first training session with her new club on Tuesday.

She joins the Hoops in what will be their first season as a professional women's football team - rivals Rangers are the only other women's club with this status in Scotland. Celtic finished third in the SWPL league in the 2018 season and have already played two league cups games so far this campaign - winning their most recent 6-0.

"I’m very happy because, for me, it’s a very good opportunity. I took this decision to come to Celtic because I want to grow and I want to win things with this club," she told the club's website.

"I watch a lot of football so I know Celtic is a very big club. I’ve watched the games and I can see the passion, which is awesome.

"I just want to meet my new team-mates, start playing football, score goals and start a new season with Celtic."

Anita will be available for the Hoops opening game of the 2020 SWPL season against reigning champions Glasgow City on Friday evening at home - kick-off is 7:30-pm.
