History will be made in Tampa on April 5, as for the first time ever at WrestleMania, an NXT Championship will be defended.

As she won the Royal Rumble match last month, Charlotte Flair was able to challenge for any female title she wished, and on Sunday it was confirmed that she will take on Rhea Ripley for her NXT Women's Championship.

A former champion in NXT herself, Flair faces a fresh opponent at the Raymond James Stadium, and there's even scope to add Bianca Belair in further down the line following Charlotte's post-match beat-down of both women at TakeOver: Portland.

Flair will meet her match for certain though at 'Mania, with Ripley being just as tall and athletic as her inside the squared circle.

Last year the women main evented WrestleMania, with Becky Lynch defeating both Flair and Ronda Rousey to become the 'champ-champ'.

It's been even longer though since the women main evented NXT's flagship event - TakeOver - you have to go back to the Respect show at Full Sail back in October 2015, where Bayley defeated Sasha Banks in an Ironwoman match.

Ripley though believes the females are ready to shine again and take the final spot on the card.

"I 110 per cent think so. We’re all fighting very hard for our spot and I do believe that we deserve that main event spot," Ripley exclusively told GiveMeSport.

"Shayna [Baszler] and I were the main event of the last TV taping of last year and we absolutely killed it and we ended that show amazingly.

"So I think if the women were able to end an NXT TakeOver event there would be no complaints. We would definitely steal the show and prove to everyone why we deserve that spot."

Strong confidence indeed from the Aussie, and when pressed on a wrestler she hasn't faced before who she would like to tangle with in a main event match, an NXT newcomer came to her mind.

"If it was for an NXT TakeOver I’d definitely choose one of my NXT girls," said Ripley.

"I would love to be able to compete against Raquel Gonzalez. She debuted on NXT TakeOver: Portland helping Dakota Kai defeat Tegan Nox and I would definitely like to stand toe-to-toe with her at an NXT TakeOver event."

Gonzalez made a big impact by slamming Nox from the top turnbuckle - with the table that the Welsh wizard was meant to go through not breaking - and Ripley told GMS that Gonzalez wouldn't get the chance to ever do that to her.

Ripley v Gonzalez would certainly be a clash of two powerful women - maybe in a year's time that could be the NXT TakeOver: Los Angeles main event before WrestleMania 37.
