Tottenham vs RB Leipzig: Dele Alli throws a touchline tantrum after being subbed off

Alli threw a touchline tantrum during Spurs vs Leipzig

Tottenham were beaten at home by RB Leipzig in the first leg of their Champions League last 16 knockout tie.

Timo Werner scored the only goal of the game for the visitors, converting from the penalty spot after Ben Davies fouled Konrad Laimer inside the box.

In truth, it could have been so much worse for Spurs.

The Premier League side were outclassed for well over 70 minutes, only to finally start putting up a fight during the last 20.

Interestingly, that shift in mentality came after Dele Alli was subbed off with just over an hour gone.

Erik Lamela, his replacement, changed the game and seemed to spark Spurs into life.

But while it was going better on the pitch, Alli himself was fuming on the bench after being subbed off.

He stormed over to his seat and grabbed a water bottle to throw on the floor before sitting down, ripping off his boots and launching them too.

The midfielder then sat with a face of thunder for the remainder of the match. Check out his touchline tantrum below, thanks to some brilliant fan footage:

The frustration is clear for all to see there. Post-match, Mourinho was asked for his opinion on the situation.

"I think he was angry with his performance, not with me," the Spurs manager said of Alli's reaction.

"I think he understands why I took him off and our performance improved.

Alli was seething on the bench

"In the last part of the game, I tried to play with Lamela on one side and Giovani Lo Celso on the other, with two fast players through the middle.

"The only problem at that time was the two fast players were not fast anymore because of fatigue."

Mourinho didn't make much of Alli's frustration after the game, but does he really believe the Englishman was angry with his performance, rather than being taken off?

Alli couldn't stand watching from the bench

Considering he was actually one of Tottenham's better players on the night, probably not.
