England’s Red Roses have sold out their upcoming Six Nations match against Ireland in Doncaster on Sunday.

The Red Roses are currently on track to secure the Grand Slam having beaten France (19-13) and Scotland (53-0) in their previous two matches.

Their next clash against Ireland could prove a trickier opponent as the Irish side have also won two from two in their own Six Nations campaign and will be looking to overcome the reigning champions.

The news that Castle Park stadium in Doncaster has sold out in advance of the match this Sunday is testament to the growing interest in the women’s game. It will also be welcome news for England who were forced to play their previous game against Scotland behind closed doors at Murrayfield after Storm Ciara forced a postponement of their original match.

Nicky Ponsford, Head of Women’s Performance at RFU believes selling out Doncaster Knights’ home stadium is a great sign of the progress in women’s rugby.

“What this does show is how far the game is moving on, that people want to come and see us play and there’s nothing better than playing in stadiums that are sold out.

“We’ve had some excellent support from the fan base and we’ve developed a really good following.

“The noise is so much better in a full house and it’s always exciting to play in a stadium that’s noisy and really engaged in what you do. That makes a massive difference when you’re out on the pitch.”

England’s next home match will be against Wales held at The Stoop, home of Harlequins.
