YouTube has become an absolute hive for football fans over the years.

It's only recently that the Premier League and Champions League have consistently uploaded their highlights on the platform, but clips of goals have been slipping through the net for over a decade.

You're only ever a few clicks away from a 'Welcome to X' compilation video, tributes to Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo and montages of outrageous skills set to high-tempo music.

But which goals do you think have been watched the most by supporters on YouTube? Well, fear not, because the question has finally been answered.

According to the Independent, Ticket Gum have trawled through innumerable videos to unveil the 10 goals that keep football fans coming back for more over and over again.

10 most-viewed goals on YouTube

So, before you get tempted into hunting down your personal favourite goal, check out the most popular strikes to get your creative juices flowing:

10. Sergio Aguero vs QPR (2012) – 2.2m views

The most dramatic moment in Premier League history and Martin Tyler losing his mind over commentary is the perfect formula for attracting YouTube views.

9. Zinedine Zidane vs Bayer Leverkusen (2002) – 3.3m

Arguably the greatest ever goal in a Champions League final - sorry, Gareth Bale - means it's no surprise that fans have been playing Zizou's worldie on repeat.

8. Wayne Rooney vs Man City (2011) – 3.8m

Voted the Premier League's finest ever goal, Rooney's bicycle kick continues to defy description to this day and keeps fans coming back for more.

7. Lionel Messi vs Bayern Munich (2015) – 4.8m

Messi's first entry on the list and for one of the Champion League's most iconic strikes. We can tell you now that none of those 4.8 million views are from Jerome Boateng.

6. Zlatan Ibrahimovic vs England (2012) – 7.5m

Ibrahimovic strolled his way to the Puskas Award with a bicycle kick for the ages and one that certainly benefitted in the views department for being scored against England.

5. Lionel Messi vs Getafe (2007) – 8.5m

The greatest goal of Messi's career, of course it makes the list.

4. Diego Maradona vs England (1986) – 9.1m

Maradona could have easily made the cut for his 'goal of the century' in the very same game, but clearly people are more interested in his handball that joined sporting folklore.

3. David Beckham vs Greece (2001) – 15.1m

Come on, admit it, you've all reminisced on this magic moment to see Beckham's celebration, the iconic commentary and the absolute limbs at Old Trafford.

2. Roberto Carlos vs France (1997) – 24.5m

Carlos got so much 'swaz' on this vintage strike that millions of football fans must keep crawling back to confirm that, yes, this really did happen.

1. Lionel Messi, Barcelona vs Real Madrid (2017) – 40m

Perhaps a surprising winner when you consider it isn't even Messi's greatest goal away to Real Madrid, but anyone who watched the game will remember how monumental it was.

Surprise goal at number one

To be fair, it doesn't get more iconic than Messi scoring a last minute winner at the Bernabeu.

You might have expected better and more famous goals further down the list to have finished number one, but such a recent strike from Messi against Real Madrid is a recipe for views.

There's more than enough hard-core fans of the Barcelona superstar to rack up north of 40 million clicks of him downing Cristiano Ronaldo's side deep into stoppage time.

But with Beckham, Carlos and Maradona also doing well in the stakes, it goes to show that supporters are far from just living in the present.

That being said, it only makes sense that the greatest player in history is the goal-scorer attracting the greatest number of viewers in history. It's just what he does.
