UFC star Conor McGregor has reacted to the news that Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury have been banned from engaging in a face off before their heavyweight rematch on Saturday night.

Of course, it’s traditional for fighters to square up after the weigh-in for one final staredown, and this was due to take place on Friday afternoon.

But the Nevada State Athletic Commission has banned Wilder and Fury from doing so ahead of their bout in Las Vegas.

The pair pushed one another at a news conference before their first fight in 2018 and did so again when they met in front of the media on Wednesday.

Top Rank president Todd duBoef told ESPN: “In my 25 years in boxing I've never heard of an administrative body stepping in and prohibiting a face off.

“It's the pinnacle moment before the fight. I am just shocked."

Former UFC featherweight and lightweight champion McGregor also offered his thoughts, writing on Twitter: “Guys, please relax here.

“Vegas commission, you are on one thee (sic) best commissions, bar none, for impeccably handling events of unpredictability.

“Place men between the men. Security on stage. Let them get one last look at each other.

The last look before it’s really f***ing on.

McGregor seems to relish the face off, often using it to offer one last bit of trash talk, and it’s clear that he feels it’s an important part of fighting.

But while he’s upset that Wilder and Fury won’t get that last opportunity to size each other up, the Gypsy King isn’t overly bothered.

“I think they are doing their job perfectly," Fury told CBS Sports.

“They know what they are doing and are very experienced so I have to respect and appreciate their decision."
