Footage shows the raucous noise that they made in unison.Supporters also chanted ’Nazis out’ last Sunday when a Ghanaian player was racially abused during a German 3. Liga game.

Fans united to support Würzburger Kickers’ defender Leroy Kwadwo after someone in the crowd hurled racist slurs towards him.

The abuser was identified and ejected from the stadium, with Kickers’ opponents Preussen Munster confirming he has since been arrested.

Kwadwo, who was born in Germany and has Ghanaian descent, went on to release a statement in which he spoke passionately about the abuse he had received.

“This just makes me sad," the 23-year-old said on Instagram. "Even though I have a different skin color, I was born here in this wonderful country that has given me and my family so much and made things possible.

“I am one of you, I live here and I'm able to live out my calling and passion as a professional Würzburger Kickers player.

"So something like yesterday just makes me sad and angry, because everyone should know: Racism doesn't belong in OUR world. We all have the opportunity to tackle it and prevent the whole thing from happening.”

It’s suspected that the attack in Hanau on Wednesday evening was carried out by a far-right extremist, with Germany’s chancellor Angela Merkel saying there were many signs that the attacker acted out of racism.
