There is more than personal vengeance at stake when Jose Mourinho returns to Stamford Bridge with Tottenham at lunchtime on Saturday.

Chelsea and Spurs go head-to-head in a derby that could have huge implications for the battle for Champions League football next season.

As it stands, Frank Lampard's side are just one point clear in fourth and will be confident of extending that gap after Mourinho's side drew a blank in midweek against RB Leipzig.

Harry Kane and Son Heung-min's absences may prove decisive, though Chelsea have problems of their own without even taking into account their poor record at home.

N'Golo Kante and Christian Pulisic are out, Andreas Christensen will have to wear a protective mask and Tammy Abraham is only rated at a 70% chance of featuring.

So who knows how Lampard will set up?

Well, Mourinho claims he does.

With the obvious caveat that this could be a classic case of the Spurs manager's mind games, he told the media ahead of the game that he has been given information about Lampard's tactics.

"I was told they were back to a back-five which is what they normally do when their results are not the best," he said.

“Tomorrow the same. I was told the same.”

When one reporter asked how he knew that, he added:

"The same way journalists have a lot of news and you don't tell the sources."

It was then suggested to him that Lampard might now change things up if he thinks his team has been leaked to Spurs, but Mourinho replied:

"No. Will he go with the team as is? Of course. Of course."

That's sure to rattle any manager, but especially Lampard, whose Derby County side were the victim of Leeds' underhand tactics in what became known as 'spygate' in the Championship last season.

When his current team beat Spurs in December, a 2-0 victory for Chelsea at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, they ran rings around the north Londoners.

Mourinho can't have any excuses if he's outthought by his old midfielder once again.
