Jay Rodriguez scored twice but Burnley missed the chance to move within a point of the npower Championship play-off zone as they drew 2-2 against managerless Coventry at Turf Moor.

Rodriguez opened the scoring on 18 minutes but then had to rescue a point 11 minutes from time as the visitors, who sacked boss Aidy Boothroyd this week, replied through Lukas Jutkiewicz and Gary McSheffrey.

Watford made up more ground with an impressive 3-0 win at fading Ipswich.

Troy Deeney, Danny Graham and Don Cowie scored for the Hornets, who now sit just a point behind the Clarets in eighth place.

Scunthorpe's survival prospects suffered a desperate blow as the Iron were crushed 3-0 by rock-bottom Preston at Glanford Park.

Keith Treacy, Billy Jones and Iain Hume all scored in the first half for Phil Brown's men and while the result will come too late for the visitors, it also leaves Scunthorpe four points adrift of safety.
