Lionel Messi has ended his biggest 'goal drought' for Barcelona in six years. The reason we used quotation marks there is because, well, Messi has still been in phenomenal form for the Blaugrana and has been directly involved in eight of their last nine La Liga goals. However, clearly Messi was bored of simply providing assists and decided to return to goal-scoring after four games with a sensational individual goal against Eibar.Kick-off at Camp Nou had been slightly delayed and the early moments were marred by protests against president Josep Maria Bartomeu in the form of white handkerchiefs and boos. But those qualms were quickly forgotten as Messi picked up the ball in the final third after just 14 minutes and decided to turn on the magic.

Messi returns to goal-scoring form

Messi completely rinsed former Espanyol player Anaitz Arbilla with a neat nutmeg on the edge of the penalty area before accelerating towards goal.

And just as the Eibar shot-stopper came rushing out to greet him, the six-time Ballon d'Or winner showed supreme composure to chip his effort into the opposite bottom corner.

It was the sort of goal you'd expect from 2012 Messi and proof that sometimes, he can do the job all by himself in Barcelona colours. Check out footage of the brilliant strike below:

So, with the so-called 'drought' out of the way, you can guarantee that the floodgates will start to open.

It seems remarkable that Messi seemingly had a few games off in front of goal and has still racked up 15 strikes from 20 league appearances to go with his 12 assists.

The legendary Argentine seems to be playing deeper and deeper under Quique Setién, but you can't keep him away from goal for too long.
