FIFA 20 was riddled with issues when it was released to the public last September.Yet six months on, clunky gameplay, poor server performance and other serious glitches are still commonplace in the newest edition of the football sim franchise.EA Sports’ failure to rectify the game’s ongoing problems has seen disappointed fans turn angry as their sense of paying good money for a sub-par product grows stronger. Many feel that the FIFA series has become little more than a cash cow for the company through the micro-transactions in Ultimate Team (FUT).The game mode has provided a reliable stream of income since its full debut in 2009 while paving the way for the foundation of the professional FIFA scene.

FUT 20 Champions Cup IV Paris is the fourth edition of the event and, with $50,000 (£39,000) up for grabs, it’s one that’s taken very seriously by those who make a living on the virtual pitch.

Officially the best FIFA player in the world, five-time winner Donovan “Tekkz” Hunt booked his place in the semi-finals after defeating Pedro “Resende” Henrique Soares.

His rather dull 2-1 victory was a game of few chances, which is often the case in FIFA 20, thanks to a tactical instruction called ‘Overload Ball Side’.

The overpowered strategy is akin to parking the bus and subsequently hugely popular among players of all skill levels.

In reference to the debilitating effect it has on what’s meant to be a fun experience, Tekkz made a comment that should be of grave concern to EA Sports.

“Every game on FIFA 20 is a 50/50, he’ll win this one, I will win the next one,” the 17-year-old told GINX Esports TV.

“Because the game is so unrewarding, anyone can win, guys who aren’t good can win on FIFA 20.

“No one enjoys playing it.”

Strong words from someone who plays FIFA 20 to pay the bills, yet they’re sure to resonate with just about anyone who owns the game.

Considering that so many players have already given up on the game, it will be interesting to see how EA Sports handles the remainder of its lifespan.

There’s no question that FIFA 21 needs to be significantly better if those dissatisfied fans are to be persuaded to come back.
