Tyson Fury further cemented his status as one of the greatest British heavyweights ever with his hugely impressive victory over Deontay Wilder on Saturday night.

The 31-year-old dominated the rematch and sealed a convincing TKO in the seventh round at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas.

Fury’s victory over The Bronze Bomber completed one of the most remarkable sporting comebacks ever seen.

This is a boxer whose career appeared to be over a few short years ago.

After vacating his WBO and WBA world heavyweight titles in October 2016, in order to focus on his recovery from drug and mental health issues, Fury ballooned to 28 stone and slumped into a deep depression.

During his two-and-a-half years away from boxing, the Manchester-born boxer even considered taking his own life.

But, to his immense credit, Fury managed to conquer his demons and now sits on top of the world following his latest victory.

In the aftermath of his win over Wilder, Fury was filmed by iFL TV on the phone to his father, John.

Here’s how the conversation went…

“Everyone was thinking what’s he doing at this high weight, 272lbs. I was 19 stone 4lbs tonight, solid.

“Listen, I was too strong for him dad. I was 40lbs heavier than him. He was about 15-and-a-half stone and I was about 19-and-a-half stone.”

The conversation then changes to Wilder’s corner throwing in the towel, with Tyson adding: “Yeah they did a good thing. Listen, I was going to hurt him I was. I busted his ear, blood running down his ear.

“Listen, he was long dead. He didn’t recover from the first knock down. I hit him with a left hook to the body and tripled him. The sheer strength of me put him over with a body shot.

“Did it look good on the tele?

“Hey, dad, only the second man in history to win the Ring Magazine belt twice – me and Muhammad Ali. Not bad, eh?

“Go on then dad, I’ve got a million interviews. I’ll call you when I get back to the house. See you in a bit. Bye.”
