John Fury must be the proudest father on the planet right now after his son’s magnificent performance against Deontay Wilder on Saturday night. The 55-year-old wasn’t in Las Vegas to witness arguably the best performance of Tyson’s illustrious career, but he spoke with his boy on the phone soon after the fight had finished.John Fury had absolute confidence in his son’s ability to knock Wilder out prior to the rematch at the MGM Grand Arena. In fact, he even tried to bet David Haye up to £100,000 that Tyson would beat The Bronze Bomber. When Haye suggested that Wilder wouldn’t crack under pressure from Tyson during a show for BT Sport earlier this month, John fired back: “I’ll bet you 50 grand or 100 grand, I’m not bothered. I’m a man of my word.”

Haye is the one eating humble pie this week. Luckily for him he didn’t accept Fury Sr’s bet.

After John nailed that shout, boxing fans are sharing one of his older predictions related to a potential fight between Tyson and Anthony Joshua.

A career-defining clash between Joshua, who is set to take on Kubrat Pulev this summer after defeating Andy Ruiz Jr in December, and Fury is the fight everybody now wants to see.

But John Fury believes his son would demolish Joshua and fully expects the 30-year-old to duck the fight.

“They’ve levels apart, mate,” he told iFL TV in 2018. “You know like the aliens are light years ahead of us in brainpower… that’s how far my son is ahead of Joshua in ability. Do you understand what I’m saying? Do I get the picture across?

“[Joshua] can’t do it. He’s got slow feet, he’s got a few fast hands - he goes one, two, left hook, chin stuck in the air. He’s blowing out of his a*** the minute he gets a bit of pressure on him.

“Tyson will do more than pressure him, mate. [Joshua] will be crying after four rounds. Tears will be rolling out of his eyes like marrowfat peas.

“He’ll be swinging like that - ‘oh, where’s he gone?’ - pop, pop, bang! On the floor, end of, give me them belts back that you stole, you bum - and that’s it.”

Asked if we’ll see this fight, Fury added: “No, I don’t think you will because [Joshua] is too frightened.

“He’ll retire before he faces Tyson Fury. The Gypsy King will retire him without even fighting him and I’ve said it first. He’ll retire him without fighting him - because he’s got nothing to beat him with.

“He don’t need money, the lad’s a trillionaire. He don’t need it. So why would you [tarnish] your legacy by letting a big g**** spark you right out? End of. Do I answer all them questions?

“That’s what it is. The g**** will spark him out because he’s got nowt to back it up with”

That's one supremely confident dad!

Let’s hope the second half of John Fury’s prediction is wrong and that Joshua and Tyson go head-to-head at Wembley Stadium either later this year or in 2021.

It’s a fight that simply *has* to happen now.
