An unlikely hero has emerged from Saturday night’s game between Ole Miss and Alabama in Oxford, Mississippi.Mary Ann Wakefield, who is 84 years old, was brought onto the court with the chance to win a 2020 Nissan Altima, valued around £22,000, if she could sink a putt from one side of the court to the other. Most of the people in attendance would have assumed that she would miss, get an encouraging round of applause and head back to her seat. However, Miss Wakefield had other ideas. She managed to do the impossible and make a shot that most pro players would be incredibly proud of.

The look of shock on her face is really something to behold, and it’s clear that even she didn’t think that she had much of a chance of making it.

Ole Miss Athletics tweeted a video of Mary Ann’s incredible feat and said: "94 Feet? No problem.

"Mary Ann walked into The Pavilion tonight for @OleMissMBB. She walks out with a NEW CAR thanks to our friends at @CannonMotors!|"

The video has gone viral, and the original has been liked over 20,000 times with nearly 6,000 people talking about it.

Sandra McDougall-Mitchell, Mary Ann’s daughter, later took to Twitter to celebrate her mother.

She tweeted: "She just won a car with a 94-ft putt at the Ole Miss basketball game.

"Mother of 7, grandmother and great grandmother. 86 years young.

"This couldn’t have happened to a better person."

Ole Miss fell to Alabama 103-78, which wasn’t the ending that the crowd would have been hoping for.

Soon enough, you will be able to catch her rolling around in her new car and if you are in the area, why not get in contact with her for a putting lesson?
