WWE booked another screwjob this week on Monday Night Raw in Winnipeg, Canada, similar to that of the infamous Montreal Screwjob of 1997's Survivor Series match between Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels.

Raw’s main event this week saw Canada’s own Kevin Owens take on Randy Orton in a singles match.

This match was booked after the two exchanged words in the opening of the show, with Owens asking Orton why he attacked Edge following the Royal Rumble and seemingly ruined any dream Owens-Edge match.

In the main event, it was a fairly fought contest until Seth Rollins, Murphy, and AOP appeared at ringside to try and cause some distractions.

However, The Street Profits and The Viking Raiders then arrived on the scene to fend off the heels at ringside while Owens created separation from Orton in the ring.

The Monday Night Messiah then jumped on the apron, distracting The Prizefighter, which allowed The Viper to strike with a clothesline.

Another distraction from Rollins led to Owen booting him awkwardly into the guardrail from the ring apron, but Orton capitalized on the situation with a draping DDT.

The referee then shockingly hit a quick three count to award Orton the win to the surprise of The Viper.

As Orton was preparing to give Owens a chair shot to the head, The Prizefighter regained composure and grabbed a chair, causing The Viper to drop the chair he had and roll out the ring and exit, leaving Owens with Rollins and the shady referee.

Owens grabbed the referee and pulled off his shirt to reveal a Monday Night Messiah shirt underneath. The referee had been working for Rollins all along.

Owens then hit the referee with a Stunner and powerbombed him through a table as Rollins watched on from the top of the ramp to end Raw.

Of course, this screwjob angle on Raw involving Owens and Rollins strikes a resembelance to the infamous Montreal Screwjob from 1997’s Survivor Series involving Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, and Vince McMahon.

The Montreal Screwjob involved Earl Hebner, under orders from Vince, calling for the bell while Michaels held Hart in a Sharpshooter finisher despite the fact The Hitman did not submit. This was not a prearranged agreement between the superstars.

Instead, Vince pulled the screwjob in order to make sure Hart didn’t leave WWE for WCW with the WWF World Heavyweight title around his waist. It has since gone down as the most controversial unscripted moments in wrestling history.

Is anyone surprised WWE has done another screwjob angle with a Canadian wrestler in Canada?
