Aston Villa ace Jean Makoun believes Darren Bent will fire the club to safety sooner rather than later.

The Cameroon international has been impressed with his colleague after both arrived at Villa Park in January, although the club are yet to fully pull away from safety in the Barclays Premier League.

Makoun is confident that it's only a matter of time though, and tips the former Sunderland man to make the difference in the final months of the season.

“Darren is a quality goalscorer, he shows that every day in training,” said the former Lyon man.

“It’s great to see him banging in goals all the time. He has so much class in front of goal."

The 27-year-old continued his praise of the England international, comparing him to Ruud Van Nistelrooy as a classic 'fox in the box' striker.

Focusing on his own opportunities at the Villains, Makoun missed three games with suspension after a red card against Blackpool, but is desperate to take his opportunity should the call come from Gerard Houllier against Wolves.

“He is always in the right place at the right time in front of goal. He’s a predator and a goal poacher. He can sniff out the goals. I have seen a lot of great strikers in the Champions League – the likes of Raul, Samuel Eto’o – but the one who Darren reminds me of most is Ruud Van Nistelrooy," the £6 million man concluded.

“I am coming back for a really, really important game. It’s a derby, which we’re looking forward to, but the points are more important than that."
