Jess Fishlock was another female star in the footballing world who suffered a torn ACL.

The Reign FC midfielder sustained the injury in July 2019 and has only just hinted to fans of her return after posting a video on social media during pre-season training.

Despite the Welsh manager Jayne Ludlow stating that Fishlock is “doing well” she was not named in the international squad to face Estonia on Friday, 6 March. However, she Ludlow believes that she will be “flying fit” in next months games against the Faroe Islands and Norway.

Ludlow has welcomed back Natasha Harding into the squad from injury for their upcoming international games.

Fishlock previously missed the four opening games of the Euros qualifiers, whilst Harding returns to the international side after missing November’s 0-0 draw with Northern Ireland.

Despite the record cap-holder not playing an on-the-pitch active part for Wales in their campaign so far, Ludlow stated that Fishlock’s experience will make up for the minimal game time, as they face the Faroe Islands on the 10th of April and Norway on the 14th of April.

In their upcoming game against Estonia Ludlow hopes to get the result they need to qualify for the Euros, but it is not their main target.

“Obviously we want to try and get a result against Estonia but more importantly we need to practice the things that will be important for us come to the April fixtures”.

Estonia and Wales have met three times previously, with Wales winning two of those games and the other ending in a draw. Additionally, Estonia’s manager Jarmo Matikainen was the manager for Wales between 2010 and 2014, so the match-up will certainly be an interesting one to watch.
