Barcelona's Lionel Messi had a quiet evening against Napoli on Tuesday.

Admittedly, the definition of a 'quiet evening' for Messi is a little more eventful than the average footballer, but it certainly wasn't a performance that will go down in Champions League history.

The legendary Argentine was fresh from ending his longest goal 'drought' for the Blaugrana in six years with four goals, including a first-half hat-trick, in a 5-0 thrashing of Eibar.

However, there were was no such drama during the Napoli tie as goals from Dries Mertens and Antoine Griezmann ensured the spoils were shared on the Italian coast.

It was by no means a terrible performance from Messi, but it was definitely the sort of display that had rival fans on Twitter suggesting he'd bottled it on the Champions League stage.

Napoli 1-1 Barcelona

Messi being Messi, he'll probably go on to score a hat-trick in the second leg, but hold the original thought for a second.

That's because one supporter put in more effort than most by compiling all of Messi's worst moments at the San Paolo Stadium.

And while it goes without saying that these sort of videos can make players look worse than they were, there's no denying that Messi dropped his fair of clangers during the game.

Messi's 'highlights' vs Napoli

Some uncharacteristic shots were fired into the stands, passes went astray in the final third and the Napoli backline seemed to thwart far more of his dribbles than you would expect.

The music. The clips. Ouch.

It goes to show that Messi had a pretty frustrating night in Naples, even if some of his brighter moments were conveniently cut from the compilation.

Reception elsewhere

The stats were slightly kinder to Messi, earning him a 7.47 rating on WhoScored.com - the highest of any Barcelona player on the night.

Meanwhile, the Evening Standard slapped him with a 6/10, the Independent plumped for 7/10 and Marca readers only named him Barca's fifth best performer.

It doesn't take away from the fact that Messi had something of an uneventful night, but bear in mind that we're judging that by the standards of arguably the greatest player in history.
