Chelsea were completely outclassed by Bayern Munich in their Champions League last-16 first leg on Tuesday evening. The Blues needed a positive result to have any chance of progressing to the quarter-finals.But they were defeated 3-0 as Serge Gnabry (2) and Robert Lewandowski netted second-half goals for the away side.None of Chelsea's players, aside from Mateo Kovacic, could hold their head up high after the game. But one player who had a particularly bad day was Marcos Alonso.

The Spanish defender was hapless as Chelsea fell 3-0 behind.

And frustration got the better of him as he was sent off after an off-the-ball incident with Lewandowski.

To be honest, that probably wasn't a red card worthy offence but VAR still decided to upgrade his yellow to a red.

To make matters worse, Alonso's comments about Bayern in January last year have come back to haunt him.

At the time Callum Hudson-Odoi was being seriously linked with a move to the Germans.

Alonso decided to speak to the media about it and he wasn't exactly complimentary of the Bavarian giants.

“He is a good player, but he is very young,” he said of Hudson-Odoi, per talkSPORT. “He needs to have patience and to be hungry and fight for a place in this team.

“That is all he needs to do, he has all the conditions to be a great player, now it is up to him to fight for a place here or try to find more minutes somewhere else.

“Bayern Munich? We are Chelsea, another great team, the Premier League is the most competitive league in the world, I don’t know why someone would go to Bayern Munich.”

Well those words have come back to haunt him.

It could get even worse for Chelsea when they have to make the trip to Bayern to play them in the second leg in three weeks time.

At least Alonso, who will be suspended for the game, won't have to endure what will likely be a-another painful night for Chelsea's players.
