Chelsea fan makes video of Jorginho’s ‘gutless big game performance’ vs. Bayern Munich

Chelsea are on the brink of being eliminated from the Champions League following their 3-0 defeat at home to Bayern Munich on Tuesday night.

Frank Lampard’s side conceded three second-half goals – two from former Arsenal winger Serge Gnabry and another from the prolific Robert Lewandowski – and must now score at least three goals away at the Allianz Arena on March 18 to stand any chance of reaching the quarter-finals.

Chelsea pulled off one famous miracle against Bayern back in 2012, but it’s hard to imagine the Blues having enough to stun the German giants next month.

With the exception of Mateo Kovacic, no Chelsea player covered themselves in glory on Tuesday evening. They were comprehensively outclassed by their opponents.

Lampard said as much in his post-match press conference, telling reporters: “I thought there were a couple of performances in our team, namely Kovacic, who played with a personality and a quality that makes you go, ‘okay, he can play in pretty much any team with that level.’

“Other than that we need to say tonight wasn’t a night where we showed that, and that’s on an individual to take responsibility.”

One player who has come in for criticism from fans on social media is Jorginho.

The Italian midfielder, who is suspended for the second leg after picking up a yellow card early in the 49th minute, received average ratings from the British press – a 5 from The Sun, a 6 from the Guardian and a 5 from the Mirror – but one supporter has clearly had enough of him.

@Hustler_Futbol uploaded a video titled: ‘Jorginho vs Bayern Munich (H)

‘Another gutless big game performance from the worst midfielder in Chelsea history.’

A harsh of fair assessment of Jorginho’s performance?

After the match, Jorginho admitted that Chelsea had been beaten by a superior team.

“It is very difficult to say anything right now because it was a difficult game and we just saw a big team,” the 28-year-old was quoted as saying by Goal. “So, we know we have a lot to improve and they showed so many things to us that we can learn from our mistakes and from them as well.

“They were really, really good and we couldn’t press very well. I think we were not compact on the pitch and not pressing as a team. So that made them confident with the ball and they could play easily.

“At this level, if you concede a chance, they can kill you and when you create you have to score, even if you are playing worse than the other team because then things can change.

“We had a big team against us. I think they are playing to win the Champions League, honestly, because they are confident on the ball, tactically they are very good. The result tells you everything.”

Unfortunately for Jorginho, he won’t have the opportunity to make amends in Munich next month.

The responsibility of attempting to turn this tie around lies with the rest of his teammates.
