Real Madrid vs Man City: Remembering Yaya Toure's pathetic 'pressing' from 2016

Yaya Toure was far from at his best vs Real Madrid in 2016...

Yaya Toure is unquestionably a Manchester City legend.

The Ivorian midfielder was playing a different sport in 2013/14, where he scored 20 goals and notched nine assists in just 35 games.

His brilliance saw City pip Liverpool to the title and it's hard to think of a better individual season in Premier league history.

But the final few campaigns of his City career saw Toure lose his legs a tad and he was unable to replicate the powerful, energetic performances of yesteryear.

When City faced Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-final second leg - a tie they eventually lost 1-0 on aggregate - Toure proved to the world that he just wasn't up to the standard anymore.

The former Barcelona man produced some of the worst 'pressing' ever seen on a football pitch. You could have mistaken the game for a Sunday League affair, it really was that bad.

No midfielder in the world has any right to be that lazy, especially in one of the biggest games in club football.

Unsurprisingly, Pep Guardiola omitted Toure from City's Champions League squad the following season upon his arrival at the club as manager.

The boss knew he couldn't rely on the ageing star in Europe, where the intensity is unparalleled.

Just imagine the look on Guardiola's face if one of his players mirrored Toure's lethargy at the Bernabeu against Los Blancos this evening.

Toure himself stated that he is 'scared' for City against Real Madrid, telling Omnisport, per AS: "Real Madrid could knock us straight out. They could, they really could, because we expect Real Madrid to be in the quarter-finals, the semi-finals and now they face City.

"I'm a little scared to be honest."

Well, having 11 players with energy levels higher than that of 50-year-old men will certainly help Guardiola's team tonight, Yaya...
