Real Madrid vs Manchester City was the Champions League last-16 tie that everyone was looking forward to.Despite never winning a European trophy, City entered the two-legged affair as favourites as Pep Guardiola’s side travelled to the Bernabeu for the first-leg.How would the Premier League side approach it?Well, nobody could have predicted what Pep had up his sleeve. No David Silva. No Fernandinho. No Raheem Sterling. No Sergio Aguero. If that wasn’t surprising enough, they lined up in a defensive 4-4-2 formation with Kevin de Bruyne and Bernardo Silva operating in a false-nine role with Riyad Mahrez on the right and Gabriel Jesus on the left.Baffling.To be fair, for the first half, it appeared to be working. City were the better side and had Jesus taken his golden opportunity, they would have led at the break. But they found themselves 1-0 down after Kyle Walker failed to clear, allowing Vinicius Jr. to tee up Isco.

Sterling was finally introduced and City reverted back to a more familiar option.

But the match was turned on its head with the sheer brilliance of one man - De Bruyne.

He produced an incredible cross for Gabriel Jesus to equalise. The Belgian turned on a sixpence to dink the ball over to Jesus, who outjumped Sergio Ramos.

Five minutes later, he was giving City the lead.

Sterling was brought down in the penalty area by Dani Carvajal and De Bruyne made City forget all about their recent penalty problems by sticking the ball in the corner from 12 yards.

The match was over just minutes later when Jesus raced through but was brought down by Sergio Ramos.

It was a straight red card and City held on for a 2-1 victory.
