On Tuesday, Lionel Messi had a night to forget as his Barcelona side drew 1-1 with Napoli.

Twenty-four hours later, Cristiano Ronaldo’s had an equally frustrating night as his Juventus side lost 1-0 to Lyon.

In fact, it was probably worse because the Old Lady are surprisingly on the verge of crashing out of the competition.

Juve were limited to just one shot on target and Ronaldo couldn’t add to his incredible Champions League knockout record.

The Portuguese legend has scored a ridiculous 65 goals in the knockout stages in 79 matches.

That’s not to say Ronaldo didn’t try.

In fact, he tried a bit too hard.

In first half injury-time, Ronaldo lined up a free-kick from a full 30 yards.

It was a poor attempt as it crashed into the wall.

That was Ronaldo’s 38th consecutive free-kick without scoring for Juventus. He’s failed to find the back of the net from a set-piece for the Italian club.

From his 38 attempts, he’s hit the wall 24 times, his effort has been saved 11 times, he’s missed the target twice and once has hit the crossbar.

But zero have found the back of the net.

That's more than two years without scoring from a free-kick.  In fact, he hasn't scored a free-kick since December 16, 2017 during his Real Madrid days.

Perhaps it's time to step aside for Miralem Pjanic.

Free-kicks aside, Ronaldo has been in fine form this season for Juventus.

He’s bagged 21 goals in 21 Serie A matches, including 16 in his last 11.

For that reason, it would be foolish to write him and Juventus off at this stage despite trailing 1-0.

Failure to score an away goal may haunt Maurizio Sarri’s side but you wouldn’t rule out Ronaldo producing yet another world-class performance to send Juve through to the quarter-finals.
