Arsenal took a 1-0 away lead into their UEFA Europa League clash with Olympiakos on Thursday.

And yet after a difficult 90 minutes, they were taken to extra-time by their less-illustrious opponents.

Pape Abou Cisse took advantage of truly awful marking - if you can call it marking - from Mesut Ozil to head home from a corner shortly into the second half.

Arsenal searched for a goal to put them through on aggregate but just couldn't, so extra-time it was.

Olympiakos came close first as Giorgos Masouras smashed one from range after 109 minutes but it clattered off the bar and went over.

Still, Arsenal looked rocked.

Only for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to settle everyone down just four minutes later with a fantastic goal.

A deflected cross sat up at the back post, Aubameyang took a moment to set himself as the ball dropped to him, then delivered a wonderful bicycle kick to finally put Arsenal back in front with seven minutes to play.

Only disaster struck as Olympiakos found a second goal in the 119th minute, Youssef El-Arabi getting on the end of a cross to slot home.

But there was one final chance in the 123rd minute - and it fell to the one man Arsenal would have wanted in Aubameyang.

Just a few yards from goal, only the goalkeeper to beat, it was perfect.

And he absolutely leathered it wide.

The Gambian looked close to tears after the miss, knowing full well that it was the decisive moment in the tie.

Aubameyang went from hero to zero in just ten minutes and Arsenal are out of the Europa League.
