Roman Reigns said recently he would much rather face ‘The Fiend’ Bray Wyatt than Goldberg for the Universal Championship at WrestleMania 36 as Wyatt’s worked hard for the opportunity. Many WWE fans were outraged by the company’s decision to have ‘The Fiend’ Bray Wyatt lose in a matter of minutes to Goldberg in the main event of Super ShowDown after building up his character for months. As a result, Goldberg became Universal Champion for the second time in his career and will likely walk into WrestleMania 36 as the Universal Champion as well.As for who the new Universal Champion could be facing at this year’s Showcase of Immortals, it has been heavily rumoured over the past couple of months that Roman Reigns will be the challenger at the show. However, many fans thought Reigns would be challenging for the Universal title at WrestleMania against Wyatt after the incredible year he’s had.

Even The Big Dog himself said during the WrestleMania 37 press day in Los Angeles earlier this year that he wanted to face The Fiend at this year’s Showcase of Immortals over Goldberg.

He said during an interview with Ryan Satin of Pro Wrestling Sheet: “From a completely honest standpoint, I would much rather face ‘The Fiend’.

“He’s busted his ass all year long for it. No offense to Goldberg, I think he’s a great performer, he’s a great Superstar, but I’m into the future right now.”

Many fans wanted to see The Fiend walk into WrestleMania as Universal Champion after the work he has put into his character and redeveloping himself over the past year.

However, WWE decided to go in a different direction in the main event of Super ShowDown with Goldberg winning the Universal title, and many fans were angry about it.

Nostalgia sells in WWE. That’s a fact many WWE fans know. Many people will tune in to WrestleMania 36 solely to watch Goldberg wrestle again to remind themselves of the incredible run he had with WCW during the Monday Night Wars.

We know nostalgia is an important currency in WWE, but if they don’t build and add credibility to their superstars of today and tomorrow, they won’t have nostalgia left to sell in the future to keep people watching.
